Application Arrangements for MTR Student Travel Scheme 2020/2021

As a special arrangement as agreed with the MTR administration due to the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants are NOT REQUIRED to collect an endorsed application form in person from the Dean of Students’ Office.  A Personalized Electronic Student Identity Certificate for MTR Student Travel Scheme (Certificate) will be emailed by DSTO to eligible students* starting from 1 September 2020. Applicants should print out a hard copy of the Certificate and staple it together with the MTR application form as proof of authentication for his/her HKUST student status and eligibility.

 

Application period

Application for the MTR Student Travel Scheme 2020/21 is open all year round starting from 1 September 2020.  Students who are currently away from Hong Kong may apply for the scheme as soon as they arrived in Hong Kong.

 

Eligibility

  • Registered full-time students aged below 26.
  • Students who are on leave and not paying tuition fee will not be eligible for the scheme until they resume their study or their registered student status is updated.

 

Getting the Application Form

  • The Application Form for 2020/21 is obtainable at MTR Customer Service Center or downloadable from MTR website at http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/tickets/student_travel_scheme.html all year round starting from 1 September 2020.
  • Limited printed copies will also be available for free pick up at the Student Service Counter in the Student Lounge of G/F Indoor Sports Complex from 1 September 2020. These application forms will not be stamped with the University official chop, as students are required to print out the Certificate as proof of student status and eligibility.

 

Application Procedures

  1. Each eligible students will receive a Personalized Electronic Identity Certificate via email*. Print out the Certificate and staple it together with the completed MTR Student Travel Scheme Application Form.
    * Eligible students who have completed the program registration on or before 3 September will receive the eCertificate via email on or before 4 September. Those who register on or after 4 September 2020, please visit the Student Service Counter at G/F Indoor Sports Complex or email to samtr@ust.hk for assistance.
  2. Download the MTR Student Travel Scheme Application Form from the MTR website at http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/tickets/student_travel_scheme.html or obtain one from the MTR Customer Service Counter. Limited printed copies will also be available for free pick up at the Student Service Counter in Student Lounge of the G/F Indoor Sports Complex.
  3. For new application: Complete the Application Form and affix a photo. Fill out both the email address and Student ID number in the email address box. Submit it together with the Certificate and an application fee of $90 in person at any designated MTR Customer Service Centre^ as soon as possible from the date that the Certificate is issued.  Collect the card at the designated MTR station on the date as specified in the receipt.
  4. For renewal application: Complete the Application Form (no photo required). Fill out both the email address and student ID number in the email address box. Drop it together with the Certificate into the COLLECTION BOX at any designated MTR Customer Service Centre^ as soon as possible from the date that the Certificate is issued. A confirmation email, “Notification Letter – Renewal of “Student Status on a Personalized Octopus” with instructions, will be sent by MTR Corp to successful applicants. Activate the Student Octopus Card with an administration fee of $20 by following the instruction or in person at any designated MTR Customer Service Centre^ on or after 1 October.
  5. Each eligible student should submit ONE application only. The Certificate will NOT be re-issued and must NOT be transferred for use by anybody else.

When submitting the form and/or collecting the Student Octopus Card, students are required to show the HKUST Student ID and/or HKID Card to MTR staff for authentication of HKUST student status and eligibility.

^ Except Airport Express Stations, Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau, Racecourse, Disneyland Resort, Sunny Bay, Wong Chuk Hang, Lei Tung and South Horizons Stations

 

Aged under 18

Students at age under 18 are required to complete the Statement of Consent by Parent or Legal Guardian in Part D on Page 1 of the form.  If a student cannot get the signature from parents or legal guardian, please contact the staff at Student Service Counter in person or email to samtr@ust.hk for assistance.
